Help on the Road

by Melva Pratts
(Largo, FL)

I was teaching in Dallas and then the September 11th tradgedy occurred. Last hired, first fired, so this is my true story which occurred while driving from back home after being laid off from a teaching job in Texas. It was my twin sons age 10 and myself driving alone to Louisiana.

The trip was going as scheduled when all of a sudden I heard a clanging noise underneath my van which I was towing. Now let me first say, I was driving a U-Haul truck full of furniture and towing my Caravan behind it. This was my first time attempting a trip of this nature alone with my sons but I had faith and belief that God would get us home safely. The highway was dark and I had no idea what the sound was but knew it had to be checked. I prayed that a well-lit place would be near and my ability to park to see would become a reality as well.

I continued slowly to drive and all of a sudden a car full of people pulled to the driver side to tell me that a chain was dragging below us and making sparks on the ground. When we were approaching light, they said they would help and I was so afraid but knew that I had to check it out for safety.

When we pulled over, two ladies and two men got out. They assisted me with the chain, it was secured and then we got back into the U-Haul. Once we did, I buckled the boys up and was going to thank the people who assisted us. I looked around and there was no car, no people around to thank. I asked my sons where they had gone, and they didn't see them leave so I just got back in the car and continued to drive.

I began to pray thanking God for the angels who kept us safe on the road. The road was too dark not to see tail lights on a car so I know it was help sent to me in the form of angels, it is like they approached me in a car but when they left, I missed their exit, they probably flew away as angels do.

Disappearing helpers
by: Helen

Melva, I've had a few 'help on the road' experiences myself but I can't recall witnessing the helpers disappear. I'm sure it must give you quite a sense of wonderment. God really does work in mysterious ways sometimes, doesn't he?
